“Faux Finished” Toy Gun

PunishedProps Articles - Written, Blogs, Guns, One-Day Build, Painting, Props, Toy Mod - Kit Bash

This is one of my very first “faux finshing” projects. I bought a cheap, plastic toy gun and re-finished it to look like metal.

Faux Toy - Step 1

This is what the toy looked like, straight out of the packaging.

Faux Toy - Step 2

The first thing I had to do was sand the entire thing. I used 100 grit sandpaper because I wanted to leave a brushed metal look on the finished gun.

Faux Toy - Step 3

I then plugged the screw holes with clay and sprayed down the whole thing with a matte black Krylon Fusion paint.

Faux Toy - Step 4

I used two colors (silver and gold) of Rub ‘n Buff to paint the gun. I made sure to leave the black coat showing through on places where grime would accumulate to dirty it up a bit.

Faux Toy - Finished

Here is the finished product. You can see more photos of this project on my flickr page.
